An interesting triple section sterling silver pendant sets the stage for the rest of this shimmering necklace with a variety of stones – abalone, aventurine, malachite, freshwater pearls, black horn and black stones. This necklace is finished with a round, ornate, sterling silver magnetic clasp.
There are many light catchers in this assortment of stones. The aventurine is translucent, and the abalone is exquisite in its subtle lines and iridescent colors. The Crayola green hematite is full of line patterns under its shiny surface. All in all, this is a necklace that begs you to look closer.
All three of these stones have an interesting history. Abalone has been used for centuries by indigenous cultures in Africa and along the American western coast. It has been used for jewelry, fishhooks and inlaid into sculptures, including totem poles. Abalone represents life and for some cultures it is a symbol of water itself.
Malachite has an ancient history as well, dating all the way back to the Egyptians, who, as long ago as 4000 B.C., used it as a symbol for new life, vegetation and fertility.
Aventurine, with its glittery light green surface, was first discovered in India. Some claim that it is the luckiest of all crystals and that it is a stone of prosperity.
