DICHROIC GLASS HAND AND ONYX

A handmade, one-of-a-kind, dichroic glass hand is stunning as it compliments solid black onyx beads of varying shapes. The word “dichroic” comes from Greek roots – “di” meaning two and “chroma” meaning colors. Dichroic glass, first used in the 4th century in Roman culture, was produced by taking plain glass and adding in particles of gold and silver. More recently, NASA has used dichroic glass to shield spacecraft instruments from cosmic radiation and also to protect human vision from unfiltered sunlight in space.

Onyx is more commonly thought to be only a black gem but actually it has been found in other colors as well. Onyx is similar to marble and granite as it can sometimes show layers of color. Thought to be a protective stone, onyx has been treasured for many centuries.
