A single teardrop of ornate sterling silver forms the pendant for this necklace, abundantly full of both large and tiny faceted cranberry-colored garnets. The larger garnets contain marbleized veins, adding to the beauty of the rectangular beads. The green aventurine matches the veins in the larger garnet beads. Finally, equally ornate silver beads precede the toggle clasp to finish the necklace.
Garnets, named after the Latin for pomegranate, have been used throughout the ages by many civilizations. They were used in Czechoslovakia as far back as the Bronze Age, in Egypt more than 5,000 years ago, and in ancient Greek and Roman civilizations, not to mention the Aztecs and Native Americans. Garnets are said to enhance truth, faith, and constancy.
Aventurine, a member of the quartz family, can be found in green, blue, and red-brown. They have been mined in Brazil, India, and Russia. Aventurine is said to be known for encouraging vitality, growth, and confidence. It is the stone of optimism and a zest for life.
