Luminescent colors wind and curl inside the dichroic glass heart pendant. Dichroic glass was created by artists during the Roman Empire as far back as the 4th century. It was created by adding either gold or silver particles to crushed glass and then fusing it together. Thin layers of metallic oxides can be varied to create a rainbow of colors. This glass heart is encased in beautiful sterling silver with an ornate ring at the top. The purple stone embedded in this pendant could be amethyst, but we are not positive. Narrow flat rings of dichroic glass of different colors are scattered throughout this long necklace. Midnight black onyx makes a sharp contrast with the metallic colors of the glass.
Onyx is considered a protective stone and has been used throughout the ages. It has been carved into amulets and inlaid into statues. It has also been used in ceremonies, particularly by sorcerers.
